Indian chicken curry...
I cooked for the second time in Germany Indian Chicken curry with the help of my German roomates...umm it tastes so good and all my German friends enjoyed so much. I got the recipe from my closest sis-in-law and here it goes:
Ingredients:
- Chicken = 2kg: small/medium pieces.
- Onions = 5-6 in number: cut them into long pieces.
- Garlic = 1 & 1/2 in number (big ones that you get in Germany): cut them into small pieces.
- Ginger = half the amount of garlic: cut them into small pieces.
- Cloves (in Kannada: lavanga) = 13 in number.
- Cinnammon (in Kannada: chakka) = 6 pieces (1 inch length)
- Cardomom (in Kannada: elakki) = 3 in number.
- Fresh mint leaves (in Kannada: pudina) = two handfuls :-)
- Coriander powder (in Kannada: dhania powder) = 3 full tbspns.
- Chilli powder (in Kannada: menasini kayi pudi) = 2 full tbspns (according to your need).
- Fresh Coconut (in Kannada: tengina kayi) = 1 : use only half. Cut into small pieces.
- Fresh Coriander leaves (in Kannada: kothummuri soppu) = one handful.
- Fresh Curry leaves (in Kannada: Kari BEvu ) = half handful.
- Turmeric powder (in Kannada: arishina) = 1 tbspn.
- Ghee, Oil, Salt,
Procedure [algorithm ;) ]:
Fry the following in a pan: butter, onions, garlic, ginger, 10 cloves, 4 cinnammon, 3/4 amount of mint leaves till the onions turn light brown. Once it is cooled down, put it in a mixer. To that add coriander leaves, chilli powder, coconut, coriander leaves. Grind it into a paste. You can add little water to it...
In other pan/dish, add oil, 2 cinnammon, 2 cloves, fresh curry leaves, fresh mint leaves (left 1/4 amount), chicken => roast for sometime. Then add turmeric powder. Cook till chicken turns white. Then add the paste from the mixer...let it cook for sometime and then add water according to your need. Let it cook ...you can close the dish. Then add salt....once the chicken is cooked, its ready to eat!!! ummmm...
Alternatives for the ingredients:
Dry mint leaves (if fresh mint leaves not available)
Dry coconut / Coconut milk (if fresh coconut is not available)
Butter (if ghee is not available)
All the best! Let me know how it tastes! :-)
Guten apetite!
